Courts Serving Anchorage

Anchorage is the largest city in Alaska and the seat of the Third Judicial District. The Nesbett Courthouse at 825 W 4th Ave handles the full range of case types: Superior Court felony criminal matters, civil cases, family law and domestic relations, probate and estate, and appeals. District Court matters including misdemeanors, small claims, and civil cases up to the District Court limit are handled in the same building complex.

The Anchorage courthouse is a large facility with multiple courtrooms and a busy clerk's office. Walk-in service is available during regular business hours. Lines can be long, especially on Monday mornings and after holidays. If you know exactly what you need, calling ahead can save time. The clerk can tell you which window handles your case type and whether an appointment speeds things up.

Anchorage also hosts the Alaska Court of Appeals and the Alaska Supreme Court, both of which are located in the same courthouse complex on 4th Avenue. Cases appealed from Anchorage trial courts proceed through these appellate courts. Appellate records are kept separately from trial court records.

The Anchorage court directory page at courts.alaska.gov has current phone numbers, fax numbers, and hours for each division within the Anchorage courthouse.
