Sitka Trial Court

The Sitka Trial Court is the primary courthouse for Sitka City and Borough. It is part of Alaska's First Judicial District and handles both Superior Court and District Court cases. Copy Fees and Records Requests

The Alaska Court System applies one fee schedule statewide. Standard copies are $5 for the first page and $3 for each additional page. Certified copies are $10 for the first document plus $3 for each additional. Research fees are $30 per hour for archived file searches. Audio recordings on CD are $20 per disc.

Some records are restricted. AS 40.25.120 limits public access to certain prosecution files. Sealed cases, juvenile records, and some domestic matters may not be available. The clerk will advise you of any restrictions that apply.

Criminal Records and Background Checks

Statewide criminal history checks go through the Alaska Department of Public Safety Criminal Records Bureau, 5700 E. Tudor Road, Anchorage, AK 99507, phone (907) 269-5767. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:15 am to 4:00 pm. Name-based checks are $20 and fingerprint-based checks are $35. The DPS background check portal has forms.

Local law enforcement in Sitka is handled by the Sitka Police Department and the Alaska State Troopers. Police reports and incident records are separate from court records; request them from the appropriate law enforcement agency.
