Juneau Trial Court
The Juneau Trial Court at 123 4th Street is the main courthouse for Juneau City and Borough and the headquarters of the First Judicial District. This court handles Superior Court and District Court cases for the borough, including criminal matters, civil disputes, family law, domestic relations, small claims, and probate. Because Juneau is the state capital, state government-related legal matters are also frequently filed here.
The Juneau courthouse is a full-service trial court location. The clerk's office manages all case filings, handles records requests, and can assist with lookups in person, by phone, by mail, or by fax. CourtView is Alaska's free public case search tool. It covers all Alaska trial courts, including the Juneau Trial Court. You can search by party name, case number, or attorney. CourtView shows case status and docket history but does not display the full text of filed documents. To get document copies, submit a request to the Juneau Trial Court clerk. In-person requests at the courthouse are handled as current, same-day service when staff is available.

Copy Fees and Records Requests
The Alaska Court System uses the same fee schedule at all courts. Standard copies are $5 for the first page and $3 for each additional page in the same request. Certified copies are $10 for the first document plus $3 for each additional certified document. Research fees are $30 per hour when staff must search older or archived files. Audio recordings on CD are $20 per disc.

For faxed requests, use form TF-311 or the district-specific version for Juneau. Include the case number or party names, a description of what you need, and your contact information. Make checks payable to the Alaska Court System.
Some records are restricted under Alaska law. AS 40.25.120 limits access to certain prosecution files. Sealed cases, juvenile records, and some domestic matters are not publicly available. The clerk will advise you of any restrictions that apply to your request.
Criminal Records and Background Checks
For statewide criminal history checks, contact the Alaska Department of Public Safety Criminal Records Bureau at 5700 E. Tudor Road, Anchorage, AK 99507, phone (907) 269-5767. Walk-in hours are Monday through Friday, 8:15 am to 4:00 pm. A name-based check costs $20 and a fingerprint-based check costs $35. The DPS background check portal has forms and instructions.
The Juneau Police Department handles incidents within the city. The Alaska State Troopers cover areas outside city limits. Both agencies maintain their own records separately from the court. For police reports and incident records, contact the appropriate law enforcement agency directly.
AS 12.62.180 provides some protections for non-conviction records. Dismissed cases and acquittals may qualify for record restriction. The Juneau District Attorney's office can provide guidance on specific situations.
