Utqiagvik Trial Court

The Utqiagvik Trial Court (formerly Barrow) is the primary courthouse for North Slope Borough and is part of Alaska's Second Judicial District. This court handles Superior Court and District Court cases for the entire North Slope region, including criminal matters, civil disputes, family law, and small claims. The borough is the largest in the United States by area and includes communities like Utqiagvik, Kaktovik, Anaktuvuk Pass, Nuiqsut, and several other Arctic villages.

The courthouse is in Utqiagvik, Alaska's northernmost city. There is no road connection to the rest of Alaska. All travel to and from Utqiagvik is by air. Copy Fees and Records Requests

The Alaska Court System uses one fee schedule statewide. Standard copies are $5 for the first page and $3 for each additional page. Certified copies are $10 for the first document plus $3 for each additional. Research fees are $30 per hour. Audio recordings on CD are $20 per disc.

Local law enforcement on the North Slope is handled by the North Slope Borough Police Department and the Alaska State Troopers. Police reports and incident records are separate from court records; request them from the appropriate law enforcement agency.
